Opportunity – Industrial Designer (3D) – Technical Lead

KYTA Industries (PTY)Ltd has the following vacancy at our Johannesburg branch.
As market leaders for retail display solutions and merchandising systems, Kyta Industries has an innovative and creative design team consisting of graphic and industrial designers.

We are seeking and Industrial Designer/Technical Lead with a strong technical aptitude that has proven experience working in manufacturing environment with various materials such as steel, wood and plastic.

Responsibilities:

• Conceptualising and design of briefs from start to finish.
• Creating visuals used for client presentations and concept approvals (Sketches/Block-model screenshots/renders).
• Create accurate 3D models and technical drawing/details for manufacture.
• Briefing of suppliers and production on projects relating to 3D briefs.
• Problem solve issues that might arise during production.
• Responsible for checking junior-mid industrial designers designs and technical drawings to ensure manufacturability and quality of technical drawings.
• Research & development of innovative products either to exceed client briefs or proactive products to increase company offering.
• Stay up to date with and put forward new industry standards on materials, manufacturing processes, technologies within the industry and CAD software.
• Maintain an organised file management system to ensure easy retrieval and future reference of design files and assets.
• Liaising internally with the sales divisions and individuals to complete briefs and obtain more detail to ensure that all technical drawings are correct and approved before commencement of production.
• Liaising with all other internal divisions required to ensure the completion of pre-production processes relating to 3D product design.
• Closely cooperate and work seamlessly with the rest of the design team.
• Producing samples and or run tests as and when required on concepts and designs.
• Assist procurement with sourcing of new materials, specialised components and suppliers thereof.
• Ability to present design concepts to client and receive feedback to make changes as and when required.
• On site problem solving when required.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Matric and diploma/degree in Industrial Design or related engineering field.
• Min 4 years’ experience in industrial design, preferably in either Point of Sale or

Shopfitting.

• Proficient in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office compulsory.
• Sound knowledge of design techniques and tools/machinery involved in the production.
• Comfortable in a manufacturing environment.
• Complex problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
• Troubleshooting expert
• Confident in presenting solutions and open to feedback.
• Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• High attention to detail, adherence to deadlines & initiative.
• IT skills including computer software advantageous.
• Adobe Suite knowledge advantageous.

Successful incumbent will report into the Head of Design.
